A Chartres : premières célébrations et commémorations
           
Comme partout en France, la fête nationale que Vichy avait occultée est de retour à Chartres le 14 juillet 1945.
Au cœur des festivités habituelles ; une veillée de la Résistance avec cérémonies religieuses à la cathédrale et au Temple protestant.

Le 18 août 1945 a lieu la 1ère fête commémorative de la libération de Chartres et du département .

On remet au cours du banquet le Brevet de Citoyen d’Honneur aux Autorités américaines à l’intention du Général Walton Walker,
commandant du 20e corps américain et libérateur de Chartres.
Une médaille à son effigie dite « de la Libération » est éditée par la ville à une centaine d’exemplaires .
