Les pistolets n° 28 et n° 30 se composent principalement d'un corps de 1,1 po. filetage standard,
un percuteur fileté à l'extrémité supérieure pour prendre la fourche d'armement et un ressort de fluage
pour empêcher le percuteur de frapper le détonateur jusqu'à l'impact.
Le ressort de fluage est logé dans un support de ressort de fluage, qui se visse dans le fond du corps du pistolet.
Un dispositif de verrouillage à languette pour fixer le pistolet dans la bombe est monté autour du corps juste en dessous de la section moletée,
et une rondelle est montée juste au-dessus des filetages du corps.
Jusqu'à sa mise en place dans la bombe, la fourche d'armement est bloquée en rotation par une plaque de sécurité reposant
sur deux évidements étroits à l'intérieur de la partie supérieure du corps, et s'étendant entre les bras de la fourche d'armement.
Lorsqu'ils sont délivrés, les pistolets sont recouverts en haut d'un capuchon à pression et d'un joint d'étanchéité.
Une tige de guidage, vissée dans le côté de l'extension inférieure du corps, s'engage dans l'une des deux rainures du percuteur
et l'empêche de tourner.
Le pistolet n° 28 a une surface moletée de 5/8 pouces autour de la partie supérieure du corps du pistolet.
Le pistolet n° 30 a le même type de surface moletée avec une rainure verte de 1/4 pouce au centre de la partie moletée.
Le pistolet n° 28 a un percuteur émoussé, tandis que le n° 30 a un percuteur de type aiguille.
Le pistolet n° 30, bien qu'à l'origine destiné principalement à être utilisé dans les bombes AS,
remplace progressivement le n° 28 dans d'autres types de bombes dans lesquelles une amorce de queue de type sensible pourrait être requise.
Le n°30 est maintenant considéré comme le pistolet de queue britannique standard.
Le No. 28 Mk II* est un Mk II converti, qui est obsolète, et le Mk III est de nouvelle fabrication.
Le Mk IV est de construction similaire, mais le corps, la plaque de sécurité et le support de ressort de fluage sont en matière plastique
moulée. Toujours dans le Mk IV, une projection interne dans l'alésage central remplace la broche de guidage des marques antérieures.
Les pistolets n° 30 Mk III* et Mk IV sont similaires aux pistolets n° 28 Mk II* et Mk III,
sauf que le percuteur a une longue pointe acérée et la partie moletée du corps est entourée d'une rainure verte.
Le pistolet n° 65 Mk I ressemble au pistolet n° 28 à l'extérieur, tandis qu'à l'intérieur il en diffère par un percuteur tranchant
et sensible et un ensemble d'armement de type différent.
L'ensemble d'armement se compose d'une vis d'armement, fixée solidement à la fourche d'armement et vissée dans un trou central
fileté à l'extrémité arrière du percuteur.

The Pistols No. 28 and No. 30 consist principally of a body with 1.1-in. standard threads,
a striker threaded at the top end to take the arming fork, and a creep spring to prevent the striker from hitting the detonator until impact. The creep spring is housed in a creep spring holder, which threads into the bottom of the pistol body. A tab locking device for securing the pistol in the bomb is fitted around the body just below the knurled section, and a washer is fitted just above the body threads. Until placed in the bomb, the arming fork is prevented from rotating by a safety plate resting on two narrow recesses inside the upper part of the body, and extending between the arming fork arms.
When issued, the pistols are covered at the top by a press-cap and overseal. A guide pin, threaded into the side of the lower body extension, engages in one of two grooves in the striker and prevents it from rotating.
The Pistol No. 28 has a 5/8 inch knurled surface around the upper part of the pistol body. The Pistol No. 30 has the same type of knurled surface with a 1/4 inch green groove in the center of the knurled portion. The Pistol No. 28 has a blunt striker, while the No. 30 has a needle type striker.
The Pistol No. 30, though originally intended primarily for use in the A.S. bombs, is gradually replacing the No. 28 in other types of bombs in which a sensitive-type tail initiation might be required. The No. 30 is now considered the standard British tail pistol.
No. 28 Mk II* is a converted Mk II, which is obsolete, and the Mk III is of new manufacture. The Mk IV is of similar construction, but the body, safety plate, and creep spring holder are of molded plastic material. Also in the Mk IV an internal projection in the central bore replaces the guide pin of the earlier marks. Pistols No. 30 Mk III* and Mk IV are similar to the Pistols No. 28 Mk II* and Mk III, except that the striker has a long, sharp point and the knurled section of the body has a green groove around it.
The Pistol No. 65 Mk I resembles the Pistol No. 28 externally, while internally it differs from it by having a sharp, sensitive striker and a different type arming assembly. The arming assembly consists of an arming screw, pinned securely to the arming fork, and screwed into a threaded central hole in the after end of the striker.
